A book by Eng Whyeteck.
Some of us try consoling ourselves, "Oh, its only nine to five thing." But, Ive got news for you! First lets draw a circle and let that represent the years of our lives.
Assuming that we sleep 8 hours every day, that's one-third of our life gone. It's even more telling if you divide 80 (average life span) by three. That's about 26 years! Can you imagine spending that amount of time comatose? And as if that isnt enough, some of us increase that number, by sleeping some more at the work place.
What else? Well the job contract says nine to five but do you actually go home promptly at five? How long does it take you to dress up for work? Then there's that big morning rush, fighting the traffic, beating the lights or pushing and shoving on the trains. How much time does that take up? One or two hours? And, of course, the ride back home takes up just as much time again. And what do we spend those hours again? Sleeping again! Looks like for a good part of our lives, we're rushing between work and sleep, sleep and work, and quite often, we get the two confused.
Guess what happens if work is a torture and pain? Our lives become a twisted drama, filled with (what else?) torture and pain. And some of us help spread this along. One manager i know used to say, "Since i'm going to suffer, we might as well suffer happily!" It means that when the boss goes through hell, the rest of his staff get to meet the devil.
Actually the problem can be solved. It's just that the people themselves are the problem. They are the ones creating the problem.
Heh heh.
The writer has this very funny way of expressing his tots.
But its nice tho.
